To be accepted you will need a New Zealand Bachelor’s degree with Honours, or a Master's degree, or an equivalent degree and capable of proceeding with the proposed course of study. 

Prospective students without a degree with Honours or a Master’s degree may be admitted to the Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma in Information Studies programmes, which can be used as a stepping stone into the full Master’s degree.

Graduate Certificate in Library and Information Leadership

Open Polytechnic 

To enrol in this programme you need to have a Bachelor degree in a relevant field; or significant professional experience in the library, archives, records and information management sectors to the satisfaction of the Programme Leader.

 

Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Leadership

Open Polytechnic

Applicants must have either an undergraduate degree; or professional experience in the library, archives, records, or information management sectors to the satisfaction of the Degree leader; or successfully completed OP7041 Graduate Certificate in Library and Information Leadership.

 

New Zealand Certificate in Library and Information Services for Children and Teens (Level 6)
Open Polytechnic

To enrol in this programme you need to have:

 Applicants to the New Zealand Certificate in Library and Information Services for Children and Teens must have evidence of successful study at Level 5 in information and library studies or a related field such as teaching.

This programme is not approved for Student Loans and Allowances.

 

 New Zealand Diploma in Records and Information Management (Level 6)

Open Polytechnic

To enrol in this programme you need to have evidence of successful study at Level 5 in information and library studies or related field, such as heritage information or information and communication technologies.

Undergraduate

Bachelor of Library and Information Studies (BLIS)

Open Polytechnic 

To enrol in this programme you need to have:

New Zealand University Entrance, or
Hold a Level 4 New Zealand certificate or diploma qualification as considered appropriate by the Programme Leader, or equivalent. 

 

New Zealand Diploma in Library and Information Studies (Level 5)

Open Polytechnic

You must have one of the following:

  • New Zealand University Entrance (Visit nzqa.govt.nz for details)
  • passes in relevant New Zealand Level 4 certificates or diplomas approved by the delivery manager
  • an overseas qualification assessed to be equal to these by the programme delivery manager.

For all the Open Polytechnic courses:

If you are 20 years of age or over and do not hold the minimum entry requirements you will be eligible to be enrolled where your previous educational, work or life experience indicates you have a reasonable likelihood of success.

International students must also have an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5, or equivalent.

Domestic students for whom English or Māori is not their first language must also have an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5, or equivalent.
