Networking

The regional convenors provide monthly opportunities for members to network with other legal information professionals, as well as with speakers and invited guests.

Professional development

Our convenors organise regular professional development opportunities in Wellington and Auckland. Members from outside these cities are invited to join in via phone/internet conferencing where possible. Past topics for seminars/talks have included: sources of international law, legal history, legal practice, legal research and copyright.

Occasionally, convenors organise visits to places/exhibitions of interest, such as National Archives and the He Tohu exhibition at the National Library. We also invite speakers to talk to members. Speakers have come from a range of roles in the legal profession including: judges, law librarians, legal academics, lawyers and a coroner.

Knowledge sharing

Regional convenors regularly get their local members together for round-table discussion sessions on a range of topics, so that members can share their ideas and experiences. Sample topics include: legal research training and education, publishers' products/databases, current issues and trends, technology and tip sheets.

Documents from these discussions, and other NZLLA documents, can be accessed from the members only area of the website.

The LawLibs email list provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and notices.

Events and conferences

A national conference is usually held biennially.

Our convenors organise regular social events for members in Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland. Most events are subsidised by the NZLLA.  Examples of social events include seasonal gatherings/dinners, social evenings get togethers over drinks and nibbles and fun events like mini golf.

Lobbying on key issues

The National Executive lobby the Government and other organisations/publishers, on behalf of the members, on issues of national importance.

Scholarships

The NZLLA typically provides annual scholarships to conferences, both national and overseas.
