About our role
 Based in the heart of Takapuna, overlooking the beach and a few steps away from cafés and restaurants, our brand-new offices are a great place to work.
 
This role is focused on providing essential legal and general administrative support to the wider Knowledge Management team. The Research Clerk will be responsible for ensuring that work is delivered to a consistently high standard and within agreed timeframes.
 
While the work is primarily in the medico-legal and building and construction fields, our business is always growing, and all manner of disputes may come across your desk. As a result, your day will be filled with variety and interesting cases to continually help you learn and develop.
 
Key responsibilities include:
  • Undertaking legal research enquiries in a timely manner, and prioritising work appropriately.
  • Writing, preparing and proofing articles, training material and other documents as required.
  • Assisting the team with administration and record-keeping, including some data entry and analysis.
  • Generating ideas for online journals, blog posts, and internal and external publications.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promoting a culture of continuous knowledge sharing, developing sustainable approaches to content generation and information use.

About you
As a Research Clerk, you will need to be legally qualified (New Zealand or overseas), able to research and interpret legislation, and quickly grasp and communicate your findings effectively. You will bring curiosity and integrity to your work, allowing you to deliver exceptional service to your team and to all of our stakeholders.
 
Additionally, a proactive approach and high levels of accuracy and attention to detail will be of huge value in this role. The following will also contribute to your success:
  • Proven experience in a legal role.
  • Prior exposure to research techniques and presenting research will be beneficial.
  • Outstanding communication and time management skills.
  • The ability to collaborate but also work independently.
  • Self-driven with a sense of initiative.
  • Proficiency with MS Suite is highly advantageous.

Legal Researcher at New Zealand Law Society, Auckland 


We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join our Member Services group, to assist in the provision of Library services, in particular legal research, for the benefit of local Law Society members and the wider Society.

The New Zealand Law Society Library is a private library serving the information needs of New Zealand legal practitioners. As part of the library team, the role of Research Librarian is to provide efficient, high quality library services to Law Society members and the wider Society, to contribute to the effective and efficient day to day operation of the library and to ensure that LINX database continues to be a current and authoritative NZ case law database.

You’ll be working with a collegial, supportive team of Librarians, Legal Researchers and Library Assistants to provide information services to the New Zealand legal profession. Our Library has an extensive collection (print & electronic) provides research and document delivery services and publishes the LINX database, an index to the New Zealand legal materials.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in law and/or librarianship
  • 3 years+ post qualification experience working in a law library or other legal sector
  • Advanced legal research skills including sound knowledge of the structure of legal information and legal information resources
  • Experience providing in-depth legal research and research training to lawyers
  • Ability to provide accurate research results under pressure to meet deadlines

The New Zealand Law Society Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa is the professional body for lawyers in New Zealand. We regulate all lawyers practising in New Zealand and are the membership organisation for practising lawyers. With 13 branch offices throughout the country, we are Kaitiaki (guardian) of the legal profession in Aotearoa New Zealand and protect consumers of legal services.
