NZLLA, BIALL, ALLA and Covid-19

23 Mar 2020

Kia ora koutou

I am emailing to give you an update on several decisions of the NZLLA National Executive

BIALL:
We had previously advertised a scholarship for one member to attend the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL) which was planned for Harrogate, UK in June. At this stage BIALL are indicating that their plans are likely to change but the scope of this is currently unknown. As such, and alongside the Government travel and border restrictions currently in place, the National Executive have decided to hold off on awarding this scholarship until we are notified of how BIALL’s plans might change.
We have also decided to cancel the lunchtime session on Preparing for the Privacy Act 2020 planned for tomorrow (Tuesday 24th March) and hope to reschedule this once things are a little more certain.

There is a substantial amount of information in the media around Covid-19. We recognize that individual organizations will have their own policies in place in response to COVID-19, and members will need to be guided by their own organizations in response to this uncertain time. Specific information for NZ Libraries is being led by LIANZA and can be found here:

In addition a wider GLAM initiative is tracking closures, cancellations and reduced services across Aotearoa. You may wish to add your libraries information to this page

ALLA:
Sad news (below) that ALLA will be postponing their Conference until 2021.

To ALLA members, colleagues and friends
We have been monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic closely as it evolves across the globe and particularly here in Australia.

We believe that at this stage, sadly, it is not possible for the 2020 ALLA Conference to proceed as previously planned at the QT Hotel, Canberra on 23
- 25 September 2020.

We are actively looking at alternative dates in 2021 and we will provide further information shortly.

Thank you to everyone who responded to the call for abstracts and thank you also to the committee members who have been working so hard to deliver the Conference and to members of ALLA, and wider networks, for your patience as we navigate through these uncertain times.

We will provide further information as soon as it becomes available.

On behalf of the conference committee...
Kate

Please get in touch if you have any questions
