NZLLA Symposium 2014

Posted 27/03/2014

We are pleased to announce that this year's symposium will be on Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th September at Victoria University Law School lecture theatre.

Dear colleagues

I am delighted to announce that the NZLLA National Executive has confirmed the venue and dates for a Symposium to be held later this year:

Dates:  Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th September

Venue:  Victoria University Law School lecture theatre.

Details will follow when the programme, speaker list and registration fees have been firmed up.  A small group of volunteers has already offered to start the planning and this early stage is everyone’s opportunity to suggest topics, themes and speakers, and to offer assistance. The National Executive team met one Saturday in early February to plan the year’s events and what to focus on.  Professional development is the priority and activities are now well under way in the local centres: the Regional Convenors have mapped out plans for stimulating local educational and social events. We will be linking up by phone or vidcon as often as possible in the lunch time sessions so that members throughout the country can participate and hear speakers or join in discussions ‘live’. The Convenors are keen to receive suggestions and offers of venues for these gatherings.

The members’ part of the website is being improved with new search functionality and we will be creating a comprehensive communications strategy in order to keep members well informed. We will be looking closely at the Association’s finances in order to make best use of the funds, support members by offering sponsorships, and ensure sustainability. The Association’ s relationships with fellow professional bodies are strong and we will continue to foster that collegiality. Other matters for attention this year are vendor liaison, and considering an awards scheme for service to the profession.

If you want to stay up with the play or contribute to decision-making on these and other points, remember that members are welcome to attend the National Executive’s monthly telcon meetings, which are notified on law lib several days beforehand.
